Well, things are picking up in the 3d world. Unreal 4, which is the most comprehensive engine for game development is now free to use without restrictions. BUT you pay 5% of your revenue if you ship something. Its a good deal for sure. Head over to their site and check it out.....I downloaded it and will be working on an environment for a RPG project I have in works. More on that later.
Renderman from Pixar is now free without restrictions as well. It is a renderer for Maya and Katana (probably more plug.ins on the way) and it boasts with alot of tools for rendering. If you download it, you can use it for as long as you want, no watermarks, no time limit, nothing, just pure renderer. The only rule is that you can´t use it for commercial purposes. I will be testing this renderer extensively and will post my experience.
Here is a shot breakdown from Framestore of my favorite character (I love him), the Rocket.
It looks amazing. He is so extremely well done that you forget about that it is CG. They also made some really interesting motion graphs for him which when you look at him feels more like a character rather than an animal.
Yes, Nvidia is releasing Titan X. Best of the best for gaming which will be able to drive several 4K monitors with the highest settings hopefully. It has 12GB of RAM, the new G200 architecture and increased CUDA. Well, shall I get that I thought for the summer! Well, it depends. Nvidia disabled the double precision system and Im still looking at this. Its made for gaming, but could it perform in 3D as well?
You want to see how well it perfomrs on a live benchmark in 4K with ULTRA graphics settings and AA and it kills it. This is just amazing. (70-90 FPS).
This is not the only card that Nvidia is releasing. High End M6000 is soon rolling out. It will be a beast. But, very expensive. They havent informed us of the price yet but Im sure it will be around 5000$ range.
Maya LT for indie gamers is released. Looks awesome. There seems to be an upgraded UI and tons of tools like sculpting, shader improvement etc. Just can´t wait until the real Autodesk Maya 2016 is released. I will be renting it thorugh subscription package for a year....MAYA, I need to know you:)
Substance Painter suprised us with alot of upgrades in ver. 1.3. I will be reviewing it soon......
Take care....and remember. The tools are not creating the art but the artist.
